On Tuesday 16th July 2019 the HIP members met for a day trip to the Imperial War Museum (IWM), Manchester. There were over 35 members who attended from all over Cheshire including Chester, Ellesmere Port, Crewe, Macclesfield, Northwich and surrounding areas. The day began with a cup of tea or coffee and a plane shaped biscuit in the IWM café. Here we were joined by members who arrived throughout the morning and travelled in by mini buses provided by H.I.P.
After the refreshments, members were able to go and explore the displays in the museum. These ranged from World War 1 and 2 displays right through to modern day wars currently occurring. Members were also able to watch a visual display of videos which occur every hour in the museum and they were projected onto all of the walls, it was very immersive. Once everybody had had the opportunity to explore all that the museum had to offer, members were then taken into a private room where lunch was provided for them. Here, there was an array of sandwiches as well as crisps, fruit and cake.
Once lunch was over, the members then had the opportunity to either go back up into the museum or explore the surrounding area of the museum which backed onto Media City. Here, buildings such as the BBC and ITV were easy to spot. Members enjoyed the lovely weather whilst walking around the water front and sitting on the steps. After a successful trip members were then picked up back by the mini buses who took them back home. We look forward to the next one! A shout out to Mark Nevitt for the great collage shown above.
