This week is Brain Injury Awareness week and this is usually a great week in HIP's calendar. There is always plenty going on with celebration events, fundraising, great challenges and usually lots of fun. It is also a great opportunity to spread awareness of HIP and what we do, and the challenges that face people living with a head injury.
A great tradition is our HIP sponsored walk and over the last few years, we have been to some lovely spots in Cheshire – Walton Hall, Ness Gardens, Cholmondley Castle, Tatton Park to name a few. Our members, friends and family take part and last year we were joined by members of the Co-op team from Ellesmere Port who helped us to raise £1,334. As with any trip out, you need a good lunch so we always have a picnic or buffet and at Ness Gardens we were even treated to some entertainment from the Sing Me Mersey Choir.
We have also taken part in some great challenges and 2017 saw a team from HIP tackle Mount Snowden. Helped by army cadets, we were able to take one of our Crewe members, Rick in his wheelchair, to the summit where we were met by cheers and congratulations from everyone. An amazing experience for everyone who took part, we again raised a large amount of money and publicity for the charity.
Businesses also get involved with Brain Injury Awareness Week on Mad Hair Day and make a donation so they can come come to work with crazy hair. We've had lots of support from our friends at Birchall Blackburn, Starbucks, Howard Worth and BAI claims over the years.
This year is obviously different and unfortunately we can't all be together. However, we are still here to try and alleviate loneliness and social isolation so we will be hosting a virtual quiz for our members on Wednesday 13th May and we're promoting #mymadhair throughout the month of May as we need to fundraise more than ever.
If you fancy doing a sponsored walk or cycle, while taking your daily exercise, or in your garden, or from the couch to the kitchen, please get involved, share what you're doing so people don't forget about HIP and make a donation to https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/12725
